Looking Back

psalmsofthehoodFebruary 1, 2008.  That’s the date I wrote the first Psalms of the Hood poem.  After the first poem, there were a few more, then a few more until there were 51 poems.  The best were chosen for a contest chapbook.  It might be said that it was a family affair.  As the poems were written, I consulted my younger daughter (Mrs. R.).  For those that were written truthfully, I asked, “Is this how it happened?”  For those that were fictionalized, I asked, “Could it have been this way?”  After the book was chosen for the Ohio Poetry Day contest, my older daughter helped with the cover and layout and designed this website.  I knew from the beginning that I wanted to eventually have all of the Psalms of the Hood poems in one collection… and now they are. I hope you are as touched by the poems as I was by their stories.

Linda Ann Schofield has lived most of her life in western Ohio.  She earned her B.A. in English from California State University Los Angeles, an M.Ed. from Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio, and an M.A. with a creative thesis from the Ohio State University.  She started her retirement from 31 years in the education field—most as a high school librarian—in June of 2005 when she moved to the Cincinnati area to be near her two daughters and grandchildren.
