About the Book

Psalms of the Hood is a poetry collection that tells the story of one teacher’s journey doing the impossible job of working in an inner city school. Matched with excerpts from the Psalms, these poems go to the heart of the matter, poverty, abuse, drugs and gangs. This collection brings hope to the hopeless and is focused on the lasting impact of the uphill battle for students and teachers as well.

In 2006, Linda’s younger daughter, Katie, began her four-year term at a Dayton charter school for 16 to 21 year olds who, because of age or other circumstances, were not able to function in a traditional school.  The stories Katie told her of terror and triumph, hatred and healing, inspired Linda to tell their stories.
